Using a camera to show the cards is a modern twist on the older version of the game, called the hole-card camera. Initially, a player’s hole-card was seen by a spectator. Nowadays, however, a hole-card camera has made it possible for a player to be able to see all of his or her cards in real time.

One of the most important aspects of the game is bluffing. A bluff is a ploy to deceive the other players. Although most players are hesitant to do this, it is an important part of the game. For example, in a no-limit stud game, a bluff can be the only way to win a bet if the other players do not have a strong hand. Another example is in the Three of a Kind category. If two players have the same pair of aces, then a bluff can make the difference between victory and defeat.

The game has gained popularity during the turn of the millennium. With the introduction of televised poker and online poker sites, the game has taken off in a big way. In fact, televised tournaments are often the catalyst for a boom in poker.
